WCLAC AND JUZOOR FOUNDATION HOLD REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON EU-FUNDED 'TAKAMOL' PROJECT – BUILDING AN INTEGRATED REFERRAL SYSTEM FOR WOMEN VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE

                                                                                                              27 March 2010

Under the auspices of the Palestinian Ministry of Women's Affairs and the Ministry of Social Development of Jordan, the Women's Center for Legal Aid and Counseling and Juzoor Foundation for Health and Social Development are organizing a regional conference in Amman on March 29-30, 2010.

The conference aims to introduce the "Takamol" (Integration) project of building a referral system that covers the legal, social and health services needed for abused women in Palestine. Experiences from other countries in region will be presented and cooperation and partnership will be strengthened with specialized authorities at local and Arab-wide level who can contribute to laying the foundations for a referral system in Palestine.

Participants in the conference will be representatives from Ministries of Jordan and Palestine (Social Affairs, Health, Women's Affairs), representatives from the police forces, civil society organizations specialized in law, gender and development, in addition to the General Federation of Women from both Palestine and Jordan.

The conference focuses on presenting the results of a study determining the needs of women, who were violence victims in 2009, and presenting and exchanging regional and international experiences in building a referral system for abused women.

The conference represents a major milestone for the "Takamol" project that was launched in 2009 by the Women's Center for Legal Aid and Counseling in partnership with Juzoor Foundation for Health and Social Development under the title "Promoting Women's rights, combating violence against women: Building a sustainable legal-health-social service referral system in the occupied Palestinian Territory". The project is funded for three years by the European Union with a budget of over 850,000 Euros
